Harmeet Dhillon plans to step down from her role leading the Justice Department’s civil rights unit, becoming the first senior DOJ official to resign following Democrats’ massive blue wave of midterm wins.
Dhillon, who has been celebrated for her leadership of the Civil Rights Division since her Senate confirmation in April 2025, told the White House last month, a source close to the vaunted attorney told Los Angeles. Her official announcement is expected as soon as Thursday at Mar-a-Lago in Florida.
Dhillon could not be reached for comment. She is expected to return to her California law practice, Dhillon Law Group, a white-shoe firm with offices in Orange County, San Francisco, and Virginia.
