Olympique de Marseille is going through complicated times. On a sporting level, the club is only eighth in Ligue 1 after eight days and has lost its three Europa League matches. Behind the scenes, two former employees of the club, Jean-Pierre Papin and Ali Zarrak, argue through the media.

On October 16, JPP, legend of French football and OM, accused Ali Zarrak, former assistant to sports director Medhi Benatia, of moral harassment. “He was completely undermining my authority. I experienced moral harassment for a year and a half. There was even an investigation by an external firm which never came to fruition,” he explained in an interview with “L’Équipe”.

Ali Zarrak responded to these attacks this Thursday, in the same newspaper. “Jean-Pierre Papin took certain liberties that he should not have taken,” he underlined, before giving specific examples, including one which is particularly talked about because of its inappropriate nature.

JPP does not wish to respond

According to Ali Zarrak, the 1991 Ballon d’Or spat on a monument paying tribute to a deceased man. In this case, that of Daniel Leclercq, the former coach of RC Lens. “At the entrance to the stadium, there is a stele for the former Lens coach. JPP has arrived, he spits on the stele. My arms are falling from me. I’m in a science fiction film,” he said.

“We didn’t want to separate from him to damage him and damage him, but, if it hadn’t been Jean-Pierre Papin, I think the ending would have been different,” assured Ali Zarrak.

Contacted by “L’Équipe” regarding this accusation, Jean-Pierre Papin did not wish to respond.
